Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), formerly known as Thapar University, is a premier private deemed-to-be-university situated in Patiala, Punjab. Founded in 1956 by industrialist Karam Chand Thapar, the institution was established as Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology and granted deemed-to-be-university status under Section 3 of the UGC Act in 1985.
