Established in 1918 through a royal firman issued by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, Osmania University is the third-oldest university in Southern India and the first to be founded in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad. It operates as a major state affiliating university recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, with the status of 'University with Potential for Excellence' (UPE).
