The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), popularly referred to as the Pusa Institute, is India's premier national institute for agricultural research, education, and extension. Originally established in 1905 at Pusa in Samastipur, Bihar, the institute was relocated to New Delhi in 1936 following a catastrophic earthquake. In 1958, under the UGC Act of 1956, it was recognized as a Deemed-to-be University. Operating under the administrative control of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, IARI served as the cradle and engine of India's Green Revolution through groundbreaking high-yielding semi-dwarf wheat and rice varieties. The institute comprises multiple specialised schools—Crop Improvement, Plant Protection, Basic Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences, and Horticultural Science—alongside regional research stations across the country and sister mega-campuses such as IARI Jharkhand and IARI Assam. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate (M.Sc./M.Tech), and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes across diverse agricultural disciplines.
